5 Common Myths About Air Purifiers And Why You Should Buy One

If you have been thinking about investing in air purifiers and have been asking around for advice about it, you have most probably been dissuaded. However, most people are not aware of the fact that indoor air pollution is very much a thing and it will soon become a requirement to install air purifiers, at least in major Indian cities.

Here are 5 common myths you’ll hear about air purifiers:

Indoor Air Pollution is Survivable

If you don’t see the point in buying air purifiers for your home because the outdoors is more polluted and you’re still doing okay, you are just one of the many who hold this false belief. The air pollution level inside a room can be up to three times more than what it is outdoors. This is mainly because of smoke from cooking, incense sticks, dust, dead skin from human or pets, pollen from plants among others.
Moreover the actual time spent on roads or outdoors is less. Most people usually spend around half the day in their homes and another major part is spent at their workplace. So, more than what you breathe outdoors, you should be concerned about the quality of air inside your home or office.

Doors and Windows Can’t Be Kept Open
Remember that air purifiers and ACs in your car don’t have similar function. You can open all windows and doors in your house even when the air purifier is running. The truth is air purifiers are more effectual when windows and doors are kept open as fresh air circulation helps in eliminating particles faster. In addition, the fan of the air purifier can be run at lower levels when doors and windows are open to conserve energy.

Odour Elimination is the Main Function of Air Purifier

Odour elimination is not the true test of an air purifier. Moreover, not all air purifiers are built to kill all types of odour. The filters in air purifiers are meant to trap particles mainly. To get rid of odour, consumers will have to opt for brands that incorporate odour elimination using different activated carbon filters. HEPA filters alone do not kill odour as they are built to capture particulate matter.
Odour elimination is an added feature in air purifiers and not their main purpose. There are several filters which target tobacco smoke and other indoor related odours like cooking. Invest in these if you decide that odour control and elimination is needed in your household. On the other hand, if you don’t want additional features there are filters which remove pollutants only.

Air Purifiers are effective only when you are near it
All air purifiers come with a certain Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) rating in cubic feet per minute (CFM). This rating states the amount of air that the air purifier will clean the air of the entire room given its capacity. So, whether you are away or near, it doesn’t matter as long as the air purifier is able to cater to the entire room size.

Air Conditioners and Air Purifiers are Interchangeable
Air conditioning is installed to control the temperature of the room according to your preference. It has nothing to do with air purification as it is ineffective against removing dust, pollen and moulds in the atmosphere.

Here is why you should buy an Air Purifier
If you have pets in your house, you will be aware that they shed more than humans do. Pet dander can trigger asthma or allergies as can cigarette smoke, pollen, cooking and others. If your house is new or recently renovated, chemicals like formaldehyde can make your air toxic. If you or any of your family suffers from respiratory diseases, an air purifier will make breathing easier for that person. Head over to Carypure to find an air purifier to suit your needs.

What is a HEPA filter? How does it work?

When investing in an air purifier, you will be advised to choose device with HEPA filters. HEPA filters are to air purifiers what 3D glasses are to 3D movies; essential that is. Here is everything you need to know about this feature in air purifiers.

HEPA is an acronym that means High Efficiency Particulate Air, so a HEPA filter is a filter that is Highly Efficient while filtering air. Filters, whether for an air purifier or other implementation, come with many claims and benefits.

According to The Institute of Environmental Sciences and Technology, a true HEPA filter must trap 99.97% of particulates 0.3 microns or bigger. This does not mean that the filter cannot ensnare particles smaller than 0.3 microns, because quite a few HEPA filters can; it is simply the verge that must be reached in order to brand a product with the HEPA name.

How it Works?

To put it plainly, HEPA filters trap air contaminants in a compound web of fibers. Depending on the size of the particle, this can happen in four diverse ways: Inertial Impaction, Interception, Diffusion, or Sieving.

Bigger contaminants are trapped via sieving and inertial impaction. The particles either are trapped while attempting to travel through the fibers or collide with the fibers and become trapped. As they move through the filter, Medium sized particles are grabbed by the fibers through interception. Smaller particles are degenerated as they travel through the filter and eventually collide with a fiber and are trapped before passing through with the air.

A comparison of the size of common pollutants:
      Spores: 3 – 40 microns
      Mold: 3 – 12 microns
      Bacteria: 0.3 – 60 microns
      Car emissions: 1 – 150 microns
      Pure oxygen: 0.0005 microns
It is important to be aware of the fact that not all HEPA filters are alike. Some brands couple the HEPA feature with others like activated carbon, ozone, ionizing, and UV technology to make the air purifiers more efficient. HEPA filters are usually classified using the five letters A through E, based on how well they resist airflow and capture particles. Type A that while still meeting the basic criteria for HEPA, are the least effective. Type E, at the opposite end of the scale, are military grade filters competent in coping with radiological, chemical or biological particles. HEPA filters also have a classification based on whether filters are fire resistant (type 1) or semi-combustible (type 2).
HEPA filters have proven to be advantageous for use in both homes and offices. Conventional vacuum cleaners do not adequately trap dust particles and they also expel minute air pollutants back into the air we inhale.  Switching from air purifiers with traditional filters to those with HEPA filters greatly improves indoor air quality. HEPA filters help prevent flare ups to those who suffer from asthma or allergy symptoms as they trap the minute pollutants that trigger these reactions.  HEPA filters can help eliminate smoke, dust, mold, bacteria, and pollen.

E-Commerce In India: Scope, Challenges & Future

Over the past decade, the selling and buying of goods have been changed considerably, thanks to the internet! E-commerce has completely transformed the customer shopping experience today because of wide the adaption of different technologies and devices. Secured online payment methods have also been a contributing factor for the boon of this industry. The biggest surprise however is the increase in shopping online on EMI.

At one time, small items such as clothes and shoes were the most bought online. Today, consumers are not hesitant to make heavier purchases from e-commerce sites with the introduction of concept of emi. Fintech sites such as Finomena provide consumers the option to buy home essentials such as furniture on emi. So basically, you can now easily buy your dream Urban Ladder furniture at a convenient price that you can pay per month at a rate fixed by you! That is how much EMI has made payment easy and revolutionised the purchasing trends of the e-commerce sector. For platforms such as Finomena, you are even eligible to buy furniture on emi and other essentials without owning credit/debit card.

Availability of easy financing options is a key need in e-commerce and the key to a brighter future for this sector lies behind new EMI options that will enable customers who don't have a credit card to avail real-time credit for high-ticket purchases.

Why EMI?

Let us take the example of Finomena-

Loans are given out on specific categories are considered as ‘good’ or ‘productive’ on Electronics, Laptops, Smartphone and Furniture. They do this by making use of a unique combination of big data and finance to determine the credit worthiness of an individual. The platform works as an intuitive model to ensure that the disbursement of loans happen in a viable and efficient manner.
Currently based on the digital behaviour and analysis of a person, credits are assigned and given.

The Scope

The future looks very bright for both EMI and E-commerce as more and more Banks will venture into partnering with e-commerce players to provide lucrative offers like cashback, Easy EMI on furniture and other essentials, secured transaction, Loyalty points to promote card or net banking payments. PayPal, CCAvenue and other payment gateways enable secure transactions on digital platforms. All players in online retail ecosystem need to increase customer awareness about the benefits of cashless payments.

What we see happening now is that EMI options are available only for a specific product. The future could hold the possibility of EMI being applicable on the total order value and could be split across several products across different categories.

Incorporation of loans and other methods of payment are changing the way e-commerce industry has been functioning and is influencing more and more people to switch to online portals for all their purchases.

With predictions of such variations in emi awaited in the future, such options offer great value addition to the customer’s shopping experience. How this will affect the traditional markets in the years to come is something that we can only wait and watch.
